SEQUENCES Day 9
THE UNTOLD STORY OF FRANK EDGE JR (Day 9 Production)

DAY 9

Ok. Filming has resumed. Finally. Not the BEST return but we cranked out some excellent footage. So 2:45 to 5:45 pm. It would have been a solid 2 to 7pm but Ali couldn't make it till around 3:30ish and Keith had to leave by 5:30 for prior engagements. So lots of running around and rearranging of the shoot schedule. With the limited shoot time of 3 hours, we could not afford to sit and wait. Packed up and headed out to the first location with the abusive Keith Miller. The Drain tunnel.

SCENE 38: Disposing Of Liz's Remains.
After Frank has dismembered Liz's body the only way that makes sense to him is to throw the bags into a secluded drain tunnel and walk away.

NOTE: The last time we shot down in here was for 2002's UNDERTOW and naturally the place has become like one giant swampy mess. Scouted the location a few weeks back and decided the best way to shoot this was to just have Keith wear some rubber boots. Comfortable for HIM but I kinda had to jump around in the mud. Sneakers are fucked. I also decided to once again use a blue tint to the picture. The natural color is not doing it for me. I could put a blue tint on the picture in post production but i kinda just need to live and learn? (No. I'm just lazy) Whether or not is was a mistake to film this with a blue tint is yet to be seen but it gave a dream-like look to everything and made things more interesting visually. TRIPOD was difficult in some setup's. Basically sticking the legs into mud, trying to be even.

SCENE 40: In A Tunnel, Talking To Body Parts
Frank is having second thoughts about having killed Liz. So he returns to the tunnel. Sitting inside and talking out loud to the bagged body parts.

NOTE: Again. the location has changed in so many ways. one of which is the water level inside the tunnel. I wanted to shoot from within the tunnel looking out and not looking in. So balancing myself without falling camera first was difficult. Had to just walk with my legs outward in some strange spider like manner while hunched down. 3 or 4 inches of water to balance myself over while ducking down while holding a camera without a tripod. Eventually used the tripod which went into the water but it was the only way to get steady shots. Do it right or don't do it at all.

SCENE 51: Disposing Of Playground Girl, Reflective Moment.
Frank has just killed and wrapped the playground girl's body and is now dragging her body into the dank dark tunnel. After this act, Frank takes a moment to realize his life at this point is at rock bottom but like water, he just has to flow with it since there's no way to undo all the damage.

NOTE: This was the first body haul. The first scenes were just dealing with bagged severed body parts. This was a full body wrapped in plastic and being hauled towards the tunnel. Break out OBBY! (our stunt dumby that now has no arms or a head) but he provides the overall shape of a body. nothing more to it.

SCENE 60: Rodents In The Trash
Frank returns with the Bus Stop girl's body only to discover the drain tunnel has back washed most of the previous remains out of the tunnel where various rodents have gotten into the bags. Bones and body parts. Frank displeased.

NOTE: Yeah, Keith threw a spiked a skull at me and impaled my hand. Some blood. Instant sorta blood. I have this one skull, a cool looking skull and in a previous film had decorated it with industrial stables facing outwards, looking very much like a crown of thorns. YEAH. Keith tossed it to me and I caught it. Nice. Aside from that, played production designer and scattered the area with ripped bags, body parts and bones. Then getting our last shot from within the tunnel. Keith throws a bones into the tunnel and splashes me and camera with sewer water. Abusive.

I think we ran down to about 40 minutes of shoot time total with 4 more scenes left. Hate it but I didn't want to compromise my shots with a time factor. NEVER us the "H" word while filming NO MATTER WHAT! That word would be "hurry". It doesn't help anyone. It only distracts, adds tension and pressure which will ultimately destroy everything you film from that point on out. Keep in mind, you will be stuck with these takes and scenes FOREVER unless you decide to do reshoots which I'm personally against since the first time you do something should be the first and last time when it comes to filming. Keep the material fresh.

SCENE XX: Frank's first Encounter with Bus Stop Girl
Frank using the bus stop after his truck takes a shit and dies. He notices the pretty girl sitting a few feet away. Bus comes and the girl exits his life (for now).

NOTE: I wrote this scene into the script because i wanted some foreshadowing of things to follow and the bus stop girl was my constant factor or a parallel to the exact feelings and physical appearance of Frank every time they meet at the bus stop. With this scene in place, it makes the later scene in the film connect better.

SCENE 53/55: Second Encounter With Bus Stop Girl.
Frank sitting alone when the bus stop girls returns, he now notices that the girl has been battered to some extent. Bruised and bandaged. Frank has his daydream of her. The Fantasy dinner. This excites Frank on some sexual level. He follows her this time onto the bus.

NOTE: In my attempt for deeper meaning. This time the girl comes to him and not vise versa as in the first time they meet. This time, they both sport bandages of self inflicted injury and this allows Frank to connect on some other level that arouses him.

So that's it. Keith ran off and we finished up. We had two scenes planned. One in which Frank actually follows the bus stop girl to work and waits for her outside. By nightfall when she exits, Frank enters and takes her by force. Not entirely sure if these scenes need to be in the film. Might just cut better from getting on the bus with her to her dead on the floor in his bedroom. Won't know till post. So that's it. Crazed day. Thanks to Keith for hurting me. To Ali kat for being coked out of her mind on redbull. To Shannon who always braves the bullshit to snap off our production pictures, for without the pictures, these blogs would just be boring. To myself for something unknown?
